Although Poradnik Językowy was established almost 115 years ago, it is vital and modern – in the positive sense of this word. As intended by Roman Zawiliński, its founder, the journal serves successive generations of Poles so that they want to use the Polish language in a reflective manner. This objective is to be accomplished through both scientific knowledge of the language and language behaviours of people (Poles) and linguistic guidance presented consistently and regularly in Poradnik.
Some parts of this study may sound excessively critical. The author of this paper does realise the difficult circumstances – political, economic and social – in which the subsequent issues were published. He is also aware that they have always been prepared with sheer passion, enthusiasm and a sense of mission on the part the editors and authors of Poradnik Językowy – the work has been performed pro bono publico, as a public service. We must therefore appreciate the efforts and express gratitude to all successive editors-in-chief and editorial teams for their hard work.
